"If we wait for the moment when everything, absolutely everything is ready, we shall never begin."
We made the decision to adopt internationally long ago. We started the process twice and then life happened and we gave up before we had really ever begun. In fall of 2010, we started looking at Reece’s Rainbow again http://reecesrainbow.org/. At the time, we were also listed with Robin Steele and the Down Syndrome Adoption program, here in the U.S. We gave ourselves a deadline. If we did not find a match within 3 weeks, we would go overseas.
Days later, Robin called us about our son, Ethan. We brought him home in January and have been so blessed with this wonderful addition. We knew we would adopt another Down Syndrome child soon and we decided that we would begin the process in the summer of 2011.
We hit roadblock after roadblock. It took a while to figure out the country that would be the best fit for our family(we needed one that allowed only one parent to travel for a short period of time). We narrowed it down to a couple countries. We prayed…and…prayed some more.
And we searched for an agency. Finally, when I had all but given up, I received an email from an agency. It was only what I can call the hand of God! The agency told me that not only are they able to facilitate the homestudy and post placement of an international adoption, they also offered reduced rates for Reece’s Rainbow families!!!
From that moment on, any doubt we had, seeped away. We decided if God could answer our prayers so fully, the least we could do is follow His way. And, with reckless abandon, that is what we have decided to do.
How wild and crazy is it that God has called us to rescue an orphan from Eastern Europe? He has handpicked this child and placed the desire in our hearts. And yes, there is a specific child and we will share that amazing story soon!
